License Options in the State of New Mexico
Alternative Licensure via Educator Prep Programs

Requirements:
- Official Sealed Transcripts reflecting a Bachelor's Degree
- Letter of acceptance into an approved program
- Complete Background/Fingerprinting for Teacher Licensure
Post-Secondary Experience
If you are a teacher who has taught at the college level and have worked a minimum of 5 years you could qualify for a teaching license. Visit NMPED Post-Secondary Experience Pathway for more information.
Requirements:
- Official Sealed Transcripts reflecting a Master's or Doctoral Degree
- Verification of Experience from College/University
- Proof of registration for Teaching of Reading course(s)
- Complete Background/Fingerprinting for Teacher Licensure
Reciprocity
If you possess a current, valid standard teaching license from another State/Country you could be eligible to reciprocate your license. Visit NMPED to apply or reciprocate a license.
Requirements:
- Official Sealed Transcripts reflecting a Bachelor's Degree
- Copy of current standard teaching license
- Out-of-State Verification of Experience form
- Complete Background/Fingerprinting for Teacher Licensure
