Requesting Accommodations

APS wants everyone to have access to our programs, facilities, and activities! If you need an accommodation to participate in any aspect of APS, please contact the following:

  • As an Employee: Fill out and submit the ADA Employee Request for Accommodation Form online.
  • As an Applicant: Applicants who need assistance or accommodations due to a disability throughout the application process, should contact the APS ADA Coordinator
  • As a Student or Prospective Student: Student accommodations are first created in conjunction with their school or prospective school. Students or parents/guardians can contact their school’s principal in order to discuss needed accommodations to ensure the student has access to all the programs, facilities, and activities of the school. If needed, develop a Section 504 Plan or Individual Education Plan, as appropriate, to identify needed reasonable accommodations.
  •  As a Family Member or Visitor: Contact the school or department where you will be visiting, and advise them of the needed accommodations. If you are unsure of which school or department to contact, please contact APS via Let’s Talk in order for us to connect you to the appropriate school or department. For specific Board of Education meetings or events, please use the APS Board of Education's Meeting Accessibility Request form.

Requesting Translation or Interpretation

Family members needing interpretation in order to attend essential school or district functions or events concerning their children, should contact their student’s school and request interpretation services. APS employees can fill out an interpretation or translation request to meet their families’ language needs.

Interpretation for Deaf and/or Hearing Impaired Persons

Persons who are deaf and/or hearing impaired may contact an Interpreter to obtain sign language services: Richard Harrid - (505) 253-0310 ext. 67202 or
Please contact the above as soon as you are aware of your needs. Requests for interpreters must be made at least 48 hours in advance of the event.

Service Animals

Service animals are permitted in APS facilities and may be used in school environments and for off-campus school activities. Community members may have their service animal with them throughout APS anywhere that community member is allowed to be. A service animal is an animal that has been trained to perform specific tasks or work for an individual with a disability.

Students seeking to use service animals should develop a Section 504 Plan or Individual Education Plan, as appropriate, to identify needed reasonable accommodations and other issues relating to use of a service animal. Students and their parents/guardians should contact their school’s 504 Coordinator to start the process.

APS employees must work through the ADA Coordinator to develop and plan and identify reasonable accommodations relating to use of a service animal.
