As New Mexico's largest school district, Albuquerque Public Schools is a hub for students with disabilities that impact learning. About 20 percent of APS students receive special education services and support. A team of educators works with each student and their family to come up with an individualized plan to best meet their unique needs.
Services & Programs
The types of special education services and programs available in APS are extensive. They include:
- Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing Services
- Developmental Preschool
- District Comprehensive Support Services including Intensive Global Support, Social Communication Support, and Social-Emotional Support
- Extended School Year
- Gifted Education
- Transition Services
- Visual Impairment Services
Families Connected in Special Education
Parents and guardians are the best advocates for their children, and APS empowers them through Families Connected in Special Education, which provides resources, workshops, meetings, and training.
