Background Checks and Fingerprinting for Prospective Employees

Background checks for prospective employees are based on fingerprint identification of the prospective employee or contractor/employee.

All offers of employment are contingent upon a satisfactory background check. The background check may consist of:

  • Prior employment verification, professional reference checks, education confirmation, a criminal background check, and/or driving record history.
  • Prospective employees must disclose misdemeanors for the past five years, and felonies for the past 10 years.
  • Three background check findings preclude employment at APS unconditionally: child abuse or neglect, drug trafficking, or criminal sexual penetration.

Background checks are performed once, at the beginning of the employment term, and are kept on file for two years.

The APS background check process is governed by the Board Policy GB1: Background Investigations and we comply with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Fingerprinting of Prospective Employees

  • To complete your background check, you'll need to get fingerprinted at our City Center office.
  • To be fingerprinted, bring a valid photo ID and the $59 fee.
  • The $59 fee must be a credit/debit card.
