SGT. Marty Martinez Scholarship Fund

A scholarship awarded annually to a high school Senior of APS, who have expressed an interest in following a career in law enforcement or education.

About Sergeant Marty Martinez

Marty Martinez grew up in Albuquerque, N.M. He attended Valley High School and graduated in 1977. Marty proudly served in the United States Army for 11 years; he loved serving his country. Marty went on to become Albuquerque’s finest in 1982, where he proudly served the Albuquerque Police Department for 20 years! 

After retirement, he went on to Albuquerque Public Schools Police Department, where he was a School Resource Officer at Valley High School for over 10 years. Marty’s sons Marcus and Manuel attended school at Valley High School while he worked there.

Marty worked for the Albuquerque Public Schools Police Department for a total of 16 years.

About the Scholarship Fund

Marty’s children Martin (children Andres and David), Mark (Adriana) (children Alyssa, Valeria, Marco, and Miguel), Marcus, and Manuel, have graciously allowed the EPOA to create the “Sergeant Marty Martinez Scholarship Fund” in Marty’s honor.

Who is eligible to apply?

Any Albuquerque Public Schools Senior attending college in the fall of 2023 pursuing a career in Education or Law Enforcement may apply for the Marty Martinez Scholarship.

What do I need to submit?

Applicants are required to submit an application along with an essay that includes the following:

  • What unique opportunities or challenges you have experienced throughout your high school career that have shaped you into who you are today?
  • Which field you plan on entering with detailed reasons on why you have chosen this path, and which college you will be attending.
