Engagement and Outreach
This project aims to demonstrate youth as active decision-makers and stakeholders in planning processes.
Youth populations are major stakeholders in planning processes, yet have been historically under-represented as decision-makers. Albuquerque Public Schools Capital Master Plan conducted Traffic Safety Mapping Sessions and Walk Surveys to engage students in designing the pedestrian safety program, ultimately centering their traffic safety experiences in initiative outputs.
APS Capital Master Plan also engages teachers and school staff in the development of the APS Vision Zero Traffic Safety Curriculum. In December 2022, teachers and school staff participated in a Curriculum workshop to give feedback on drafted curriculum materials pertaining to the quality, usability, and relevancy of the Traffic Safety Curriculum. The curriculum will be delivered as a flexible, living document to meet school and instructor needs based on feedback.
APS Vision Zero Task Force
The APS Vision Zero Task Force convenes APS District Employees, Teachers, Principals, Partner Agency Members, and Community Partner Members to guide the development of the APS Vision Zero for Youth Initiative. The APS Vision Zero Task Force meets to discuss the development, implementation, and evaluation of the APS Vision Zero for Youth Initiative components:
- Traffic Safety Curriculum
- APS Vision Zero Action Plan
- Traffic Safety Awareness Campaign
The APS Vision Zero Task Force provides feedback on the development of the Traffic Safety Curriculum, ensuring that the curriculum is relevant not only to students, but to schools and instructors who will be teaching the curriculum. The Task Force reviews the APS Vision Zero Action Plan to provide feedback on the strategies for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the APS Vision Zero for Youth Initiative. The Task Force brainstorms strategies for an effective awareness campaign.
