Employee Badges

Learn how to get a badge, what to do if you've lost your badge or if someone with access has a change in status, and what types of badges available.

Hours

Our business hours for distributing badges are:

  • Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays
  • 8 AM to 2 PM

Visitor Requirements

  • Children are not allowed in the City Center building.
  • Masks are required.
  • Social distancing will be strictly enforced.

How to Get a Badge

Supervisor Must Authorize the Request and Email School Police

If you are a new hire, or new to the campus, ask your supervisor of your position requires a card key access or School Employee ID Badge.

If your supervisor states your position requires a card or badge, then your supervisor must email the School Police to authorize the request and to verify your employment on that campus.

  1. The supervisor must email .
  2. Include the following:
    1. Employee name.
    2. Employee ID number.
    3. Job position.
    4. Level of access.

Bring Photo ID, Paystub/Paperwork to City Center

After the supervisor provides authorization over email, the employee must bring the following information to the School Police office:

  1. Valid Photo ID (must include full name).
  2. A copy of your latest APS pay stub (email version on your phone is fine) and/or your contractor clearance paperwork.

Lost Cards

If a card key is lost or stolen, the employee must immediately report it to School Police. Report in-person or by phone at (505) 243-7712.

School Police will disable the card and, if needed, issue another card.

Employee Status Change

If an employee with card key access has a change in status, please contact School Police at (505) 243-7712.

Types of Employee Identification Badges

Many APS employees are required to have employee badges for identification purposes and also to allow them access to secure buildings. The School Police department managed the distribution of IDs to employees.

There are various types of IDs employees can be issued. Below is a description of each kind.

Admin

Admin badges are provided to Board Members, APS Leadership Team, and Executive Directors who work at City Centre only.

No exceptions will be made unless an e-mail or memo is received from Scott Elder or Steve Gallegos.

What access does it grant?

It grants 24/7 access to City Center.

General Staff

General Staff badges are provided to APS employees who work at City Center. Employee must work at City Center.

What access does it grant?

Access to the City Center doors and elevators Monday – Friday, 6:00am – 6:00pm. Employee must have a current paycheck stub and a photo ID with them in order to get their ID.

District Employees (Non-City Center)

District Employees (Non-City Center) badges are provided to APS district employees who work at locations other than City Center. (School employees do not need to obtain IDs.)

What access does it grant?

It serves as a form of APS identification. Employees must have a current paycheck stub and a photo ID with them to get an APS ID.

Security

Security badges are provided to School Police personnel ONLY. No exceptions will be made.

What access does it grant?

It grants 24/7 access to City Center.

Contractors

Contractors may receive different badges based on whether they work at City Center or another APS site.

Non City Center Based: What access does it grant?

It provides non city center based contractors with identification to use when entering APS buildings.

City Center Based: What access does it grant?

Door and elevator access allowed Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Contractors must have a letter on letterhead from the department director in order to get an ID.

US Postal

US Postal badges are given to the US Postmaster.

What access does it grant?

Access to the City Center west door for mail delivery and pick-up purposes, Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Temporary Day Access

Temporary Day Access badges are provided to APS employees who need temporary access to the City Center building. Employees must check out a temporary access card at the security desk where they'll be required to submit and ID that will be kept with security until the temporary access badge has been returned.

What access does it grant?

Access to the City Center doors and elevators Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Temporary Night Access

Temporary Night Access badges are provided to APS employees who need temporary night access to the City Center building. Employees must check out a temporary access card at the security desk where they'll be required to submit and ID that will be kept with security until the temporary access badge has been returned.

What access does it grant?

Access to the City Center doors and elevators Monday through Friday, 4 p.m. to 12 a.m.
