Team Kirtland

Kirtland Air Force Base provides a full-time School Liaison Program Manager to extend ongoing assistance for military families and their children's educational needs.

Before and After School Care

Many organizations in Albuquerque offer before/after school programs. These programs provide a variety of activities, including:

  • Arts and crafts
  • Field trips
  • Recreation
  • Study time

Services at Kirtland Air Force Base

Kirtland AFB's Before and After School programs at the Youth Center serve Sandia Base Elementary, Wherry Elementary, and Kirtland Elementary School.

Eligibility requirements and priority of authorized use follow Department of Defense and Air Force policies.

Drop-In Care for Non-School Days

These programs are located near base housing:

  • Children’s Choice: Site for full day program varies (sites closest to Kirtland AFB are Manzano Mesa ES, Bandelier ES, Inez ES, Sombra del Monte ES, and Zuni ES). 
  • Kirtland AFB Youth Programs
  • La Petite: Locations close to Kirtland AFB are 6420 Gibson Blvd. SE and 7840 Constitution Ave. 
  • Southwest Childcare: The center on Lomas (11800 Lomas Blvd.) provides full day drop-in care.
  • YMCA: They offer full day care at the Horn Family YMCA at 4901 Indian School Rd. NE.

Rio Grande Valley Blue Star Mothers

Blue Star Mothers is a non-partisan, non-political 501 C-3 organization. It consists of mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers, and female legal guardians who have children serving in the military, guard, or reserves, or children who are veterans. They offer support and resources to families.

Military Child Education Coalition

The Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) is a private organization working to solve the challenge of helping schools and military installations deliver accurate, timely information to meet transitioning parent and student needs, and in the development and education of children from military families. MCEC is an advocate for military children and their website has great tools for parents.
