Student Registration

Learn about enrollment options and age requirements for Pre-K, Kindergarten, and First Grade students. Find out and prepare important information and documents, such as birth certificates, proof or residency, and immunization cards. Finally, set up a ParentVUE/StudentVUE account for student registration.

Register Your Student

When registering your student in ParentVUE, be careful how you enter your address into the system. Call the Kirtland Liaison for assistance: (505) 846-6477

Please note: If a military child covered under MIC3 was registered for kindergarten in their previous (sending) state before the family transferred, even if the child did not actually attend, the student is still eligible to enroll in kindergarten in the receiving state (New Mexico).

Information/Documentation that You May Need for Registration:

  • Official military orders showing that the military member was assigned to the state (or commuting area) of the state in which the child was previously duly enrolled and attended school.
  • If a military child was residing with a legal guardian and not the military member during the previous enrollment they will have a copy of the family care plan, or proof of guardianship, as specified under the Interstate Compact, or any information sufficient for the receiving district to establish eligibility under the compact.
  • A transcript, official or unofficial, or an official letter from the proper school authority which shows record of attendance, academic information, and grade placement of the student.
  • Documented evidence of immunization against communicable disease.
  • Evidence of date of birth.

Early Enrollment for Military Students

Children of military families relocating to New Mexico by official military order may enroll their children prior to their actual physical presence in the district. Proof of residence in the school district must be provided within 45 days of published arrival.

Immunizations

New Mexico state statute requires all students be currently immunized before entrance into public school.

The state of New Mexico requires all students to be fully immunized against

  • Diphtheria/Tetanus/Pertussis (DTaP)
  • Polio (OPV or IPV)
  • Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR)
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella

Students must have two doses of Hepatitis A (HepA) for entry into kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade. All students must have their Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis (Tdap) for entry into 7th grade and beyond. All students must have 1 dose of Meningococcal (ACWY) vaccinations for entry into 7th – 10th grade, and 2 doses for 11th grade (at age 16).

COVID-19, Influenza (flu), and HPV vaccinations are not required but are strongly recommended as is considered best practice.

Exemptions from school immunization requirements are only allowed for medical or religious reasons. The state law does not grant immunization exemptions for philosophical or personal reasons. Please review the New Mexico Department of Health Immunization Program website. For information call the New Mexico Immunization Toll Free Hotline (833) 882-6454.

Enrollment Prior to Immunization

  • Military children shall not be required to obtain required immunizations or qualify for an exemption prior to enrollment in APS.
  • APS shall immediately enroll, but conditionally enroll, military children for thirty (30) days while the military child obtains required immunizations.
  • For a series of immunizations, initial vaccinations shall be obtained within thirty (30) days of enrollment.
  • If, after thirty (30) days, the military child has not yet received the required immunizations or the initial vaccinations for a series of immunizations, the military child shall be subject to provisions in the Immunizations: Registration and Enrollment procedural directive.
