Biography
Rebecca Betzen is a lifelong North Valley resident, dedicated public educator, and passionate advocate for Albuquerque's children and families. Born and raised in the community she continues to serve, she spent 27 years teaching in Albuquerque Public Schools, giving her firsthand knowledge of the opportunities and challenges facing students, educators, and families. As both an APS teacher and the parent and grandparent of APS students, Betzen brings a unique perspective rooted in decades of lived experience.
Throughout her career, Betzen has built a reputation for listening, leading with empathy, and earning the trust of those around her. Beyond the classroom, she has volunteered at several APS schools, including Valley High School, New Futures, Taft Middle School, Alvarado Elementary, and Los Ranchos Elementary, while also serving on the board of North Valley Little League. Her lifelong commitment to public service reflects her belief that strong schools are built through meaningful partnerships among educators, families, and the broader community.
Betzen is committed to ensuring that Albuquerque Public Schools remain focused on students, teachers, and families. She believes every child deserves access to an excellent public education and is dedicated to restoring trust through transparency, accountability, and open communication. As a leader, she will work to strengthen neighborhood schools, support educators, and ensure that community voices are heard before important decisions are made.
In Her Own Words
"Every child deserves a great education and the opportunities it brings. That's the promise of public education, and the promise I'm committed to protecting."
