Biography
A lifelong advocate for public education and community service, Martinez brings both personal experience and professional preparation to educational leadership. As the father of three children, with two attending Albuquerque Public Schools, and coming from a family of public-school educators, he understands the challenges and opportunities facing students, families, and teachers. A graduate of the University of New Mexico with a bachelor's degree in Community Health and a master's degree in Public Administration, he combines academic preparation with a deep commitment to serving the community.
Martinez has demonstrated his commitment to public service through extensive volunteerism and civic leadership. He is an active volunteer at his children's school, assists in classrooms and field trips, coaches youth basketball, serves as president of his homeowners' and neighborhood association, is vice president of the Albuquerque Westside Business Association, and previously served on the City of Albuquerque's Board of Ethics. These leadership experiences have strengthened his ability to bring people together, listen to diverse perspectives, and make thoughtful decisions that benefit the broader community.
Driven by the belief that every child deserves access to an excellent education, Martinez is focused on improving student outcomes, restoring community trust in public schools, and ensuring accountability for district goals. He believes strong public schools are essential to thriving communities and is committed to maintaining an open, visible presence through community forums, neighborhood meetings, and responsive communication with constituents. His vision centers on strengthening partnerships among families, educators, and district leadership to ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.
In His Words
"I believe that everyone deserves a quality education, no matter what neighborhood they come from or their background. Public education is the backbone of a strong community."
"I believe our largest opportunity is restoring trust with the community by delivering an excellent education and meeting the goals the district committed to delivering in the strategic plan."
