Biography

Rooted in a multigenerational tradition of public education, Dr. Bowman brings both personal and professional experience to her commitment to Albuquerque Public Schools. A "longtime APS parent with two sons at Sandia High" and a UNM law professor, she credits her family's "deep roots in New Mexico public schools" with inspiring her dedication to educational excellence. She notes that public education has shaped her family for generations, explaining, "Public education runs in my blood—my grandmother taught at Manuelito during World War II, my mom taught in New Mexico, and I've been a teacher and professor." This lifelong connection fuels her passion for creating "safe, equitable, high-quality schools where every child can succeed."

Throughout her career and community service, Dr. Bowman has demonstrated a commitment to leadership, service, and advocacy. In addition to her work as a law professor, she has volunteered as a Girl Scout troop leader, Boy Scout den mom, supporter of the Sandia Cross Country team, and life member of the Albuquerque NAACP. She believes her experience provides "a lifelong commitment to public education, deep understanding as a former teacher and law professor, and a fighter's spirit rooted in my family's legacy." Her goal is to ensure APS remains accountable to families while championing equity, safety, and excellence for every student.

As a member of the Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education, Dr. Bowman is focused on building trust through transparency, collaboration, and measurable results. She seeks to "ensure APS fully implements equity-driven policies like Martinez/Yazzie, invests in safe, modern facilities, and supports high-quality teaching." Committed to listening to the community, she plans to listen actively, hold regular community meetings, and be accessible to families, teachers, and students. Looking toward the future, she envisions modern schools, expanded learning opportunities, and stronger mental health supports so that "every student is prepared for college, careers, and life."

In Her Words

"My family's deep roots in New Mexico public schools drive my commitment to fight for equitable, safe, and high-quality education for all APS students."

"Building trust through transparency and honest dialogue is key to ensuring all voices shape decisions that impact our schools."

"APS can modernize infrastructure, expand bilingual and STEAM programs, and improve mental health support."
