Gifted Advisory Committee

Purpose

  • Work to increase communication between parents and district special education administration
  • To provide input to APS Special Education Department of critical issues in special education currently affecting parents and students in the district 

The Gifted Advisory Committee shall: 

  • Regularly review the goals and priorities of the gifted program, including the operational plans for student identification, evaluation, placement, and service delivery;
  • Demonstrate support for the gifted program;

  • Provide information regarding the impact that cultural background, linguistic  background, socioeconomic status, and disability conditions within the community may have on a child’s referral, identification, evaluation, and service delivery process;

  • Advocate for children who are under-represented in receiving gifted services due to cultural or linguistic background, socioeconomic status, or disability conditions, in order to ensure that these children have equal opportunities to benefit from services for gifted students;

  • Meet three times per year at regular intervals; and

  • Work with the LEA administration to complete an annual report of the LEAs programming.

Parent Advisory Committee

Purpose 

  • To increase communication between parents and district special education administration
  • To provide input to APS Special Education Department of critical issues in special education currently affecting parents and students in the district
  • To provide input for the effective use of the IDEA portion of the APS Special Education budget

2023-2024 Meetings 

Virtual Meetings are scheduled from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the following dates:

  1. February 27, 2024
  2. April 15, 2024
  3. May TBD
