Advisory Committees

Purpose

• Work to increase communication between parents and district special education administration
• To provide input to APS Special Education Department of critical issues in special education currently affecting parents and students in the district 

The Gifted Advisory Committee shall: 

• Regularly review the goals and priorities of the gifted program, including the operational plans for student identification, evaluation, placement, and service delivery;

• Demonstrate support for the gifted program;

• Provide information regarding the impact that cultural background, linguistic  background, socioeconomic status, and disability conditions within the community may have on a child’s referral, identification, evaluation, and service delivery process;

• Advocate for children who are under-represented in receiving gifted services due to cultural or linguistic background, socioeconomic status, or disability conditions, in order to ensure that these children have equal opportunities to benefit from services for gifted students;

• Meet three times per year at regular intervals; and

• Work with the LEA administration to complete an annual report of the LEAs programming.

Next Meeting Information

Purpose 

The Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) provides families of students receiving special education services with an ongoing opportunity to communicate with district Special Education administration, provide input regarding districtwide special education priorities, and contribute feedback regarding the effective use of IDEA funds.

The PAC is intended to create meaningful two-way communication between families and district leadership. Meetings will focus on systemic topics, trends, resources, and areas of concern affecting students and families across the district rather than individual student concerns or specific IEP matters.

Meeting Schedule

Three virtual Parent Advisory Committee meetings will be held during the 2026-2027 school year.

• Meeting 1: Monday, October 26, 2026
• Meeting 2: Monday, February 1, 2027
• Meeting 3: Monday, April 26, 2027

Meetings will be scheduled for one hour and held virtually to increase accessibility for families across the district.
