Pre-K & Child Development

Pre-K is a voluntary program for four-year-olds. Learn about pre-k enrollment requirements and pre-k programs available in Albuquerque.

Pre-K Requirements

  • The student must be 4 years old before 12:00 a.m. September 1.
  • The student must live within the attendance zone of the District of Albuquerque Public Schools.

Remember that registration is not a guarantee because demand is higher than availability.

Programs in Albuquerque

APS Developmental Preschool Classrooms

This program offers services for children between the ages of 3 and 5 who have been identified as having a developmental delay or a disability. These services include individual therapy for speech and/or language as well as fine or gross motor delays. Services are also available in 59 classrooms located in 14 schools.

Head Start (Youth Development, Inc.)

The YDI Head Start program is designed to help break the cycle of poverty by providing preschool children of low-income families with a comprehensive program to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional, educational, and physical needs.
