African American Advisory Council (AAAC)
African American Advisory Council
Purpose
Our purpose is to ensure we support, aid and advocate on behalf of Black/African American students in APS to promote a quality education.
Mission
The African American Advisory Council is to recommend strategies and educational initiatives for the superintendent to consider and implement that will enhance Black and African American student learning, achievement, professional/personal development and provide an inspiring healthy environment that will increase their ability to reach their full potential for student success.
The advisory committee will also provide recommendations that will strengthen APS/Black community relationships, promote excellence in multicultural education and embrace equity, inclusion and diversity.
Vision
We envision systemic change, which includes increased implementation of Black Education Act representatives across New Mexico public school campuses as well as state and federal support that will result in inclusion and equity for Black/African American students and providing a safe and culturally relevant learning environment, both in the classroom and school community where they can achieve excellence in and out of school.
