Civil rights based discrimination and harassment violate federal and state laws and APS policies, Procedural Directives and Employee Standards of Conduct. EOS is responsible for investigating and responding to complaints of such violations.
Civil rights based harassment and/or discrimination complaints can be based on:
- age (40+),
- color,
- ethnicity,
- gender identity,
- genetic information,
- HIV status,
- mental or physical disability,
- national origin,
- natural or protective hairstyles or cultural or religious headdresses,
- pregnancy/lactation,
- religion,
- race,
- sex,
- sexual orientation,
- spousal affiliation,
- serious medical condition, or
- veteran status
- Or retaliation for complaining about civil rights violations or participating in a civil rights investigation.
The Office of Equal Opportunity Services (EOS) does not have jurisdiction over:
- General bullying
- Poor management
- Conflicts or disagreements
- Retaliation for conduct that is not civil rights based activity
- Students
- Parents & Guardians
- Staff & Employees
- Prevention
- Community Resources
- School Administration
