Energy Booster Afterschool Meals
APS Food and Nutrition Services will offer Energy Booster Meals to programs within APS Schools.
These APS Energy Booster Meal programs shall be compliant with ECECD Regulations. The following APS Food and Nutrition Guidelines will be strictly enforced. These ECECD Qualifications and APS Guidelines are subject to change.
- ECECD regulations require that, except for emergency shelters, Energy Booster Meal Afterschool Programs must be located in the attendance area of a public school (an elementary, middle, or high school) where at least 50 percent of the students are eligible for free or reduced price meals under the National School Lunch Program.
- If the program is located in the attendance area where at least 50 percent of the students are eligible for free or reduced price meals under the NSLP, the meal is no cost to the program.
- ECECD must approve the Energy Booster Meal Program before The Food and Nutrition Department can start a program at the school site. The APS Food and Nutrition Department will submit all program paper work needed to ECECD for approval.
- In order to qualify in the APS Energy Booster Meal Program every program must be a year round program (school year).
- Energy Booster Meals served may be cold, or hot. The APS Food and Nutrition Department will determine on a site by site analysis which best fits your site.
- All programs are required to have an APS Meal Student Roster showing daily meal accountability for each student. An APS Meal Roster showing accountability will be left in a designated place for Cafeteria Manager to maintain Production for ECECD on a daily basis, and the APS Food and Nutrition Department to submit a monthly claim to ECECD.
- Once the program has been approved by ECECD, an On-Line Energy Booster Meal Training Module will be available for all participating programs.
If you are interested in having a meal program next year at your site, please go online and fill out and submit an APS Energy Booster Meal Application. Submit this application to the APS Food and Nutrition Department, it will be confirmed if the site meets the ECECD, and Food and Nutrition regulations.
I highly recommend every program apply for the Food and Nutrition After School Snack Program. This will ensure all students receive a snack in the event there is a delay in receiving approval from ECECD for an Energy Booster Meal.
