Biography

Courtney Jackson and her husband, Wade, have two daughters who have been enrolled in APS since 2013 when their oldest started kindergarten. She is an active community volunteer and PTA member, including serving on the APS Education Foundation, two terms as PTA president, and past president of the Junior League of Albuquerque.

Jackson is a graduate of La Cueva High School. She believes APS helps set the foundation for a better community, and she wants to do her part to create a brighter future for students.

Jackson believes it is important that a parent with children attending APS have a voice in the decisions that are made. She wants to support the mission and vision of the district by ensuring that APS families and community members are heard and represented in the Board of Education’s policy-making capacity. She believes that everyone should expect excellence and work to set ambitious goals for children, as well as support teachers and staff in reaching them.

Jackson wants to focus on listening to and representing the opinions of parents about their children’s education and will partner with business and community leaders to ensure schools are preparing tomorrow’s leaders so that Albuquerque can thrive.

Jackson has a bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of New Mexico and a law degree from the UNM School of Law.

In Her Own Words

“I excel at working within a team structure to achieve common goals, and I will work with the current board to set goals that are data-driven. It is pivotal that the Board engages in healthy discussion but acts together with the best interests of students in mind. Together, we can build upon their experience to effect change within our educational system.” – 2021

“APS and district charters should work collaboratively to grow enrollment to meet demand. School choice programs, including open enrollment, charter schools, and magnet schools, enhance quality, provide for the best interest of the students, infuse accountability into the system, and provide educational opportunity where it might not have existed before.” – 2021

“The relationship between the superintendent and the Board of Education should be one of management (superintendent) and governance (Board of Education). It is the role of the Board to set policy, and it is the role of the superintendent to implement the policy and ensure the efficient and effective operations of the school district. It is also imperative that each oversee the proper use of education dollars so that the funding gets to the classroom where it belongs.” – 2021
