Tanya Campos heads the Office of Equity and Engagement for Albuquerque Public Schools, which oversees the offices of Indian Education, Language and Cultural Equity, Refugee and Newcomer Supports and Equal Opportunity Services.
Campos is an enrolled tribal member of the Pueblo of Isleta. She identifies as a Pueblo woman, but also honors her matrilineal heritage from Northern New Mexico. Her career in education spans more than 30 years, with a focus in clinical and school/career counseling and student support and administrative services.
Campos’ first ties to the district came as an APS parent, with her son attending district schools throughout his time in K-12 education. She also worked at Wellesley College, the Institute of American Indian Arts and the University of New Mexico. She received her bachelor’s degree in political science and Spanish from Wellesley College and her master’s in counseling from the University of New Mexico.
