We are now hiring for an Environmental Education Teacher- New MexiCorps position to teach on-site at the SMNHC, at Los Padillas Wildlife Sanctuary, with the NM Museum of Natural History and Science, and around New Mexico. This position will be 3 days per week, and will require a total of 675 total hours between mid October and mid July 2025.

Job Title: Environmental Education Teacher- New MexiCorps position

Position Description:

This Environmental Education Teacher New MexiCorps position will serve as an environmental educator based out of the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center, the outdoor education site run by the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science.

Duties:

Lead environmental education field programs at the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center, Los Padillas Wildlife Sanctuary, the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science and various wild areas around New Mexico. The programs consist of field-based stem activities while on 1.5 to 2-mile hikes in wild areas around New Mexico. While at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, education programs will consist of classroom visits in local schools and site visits to libraries and events across New Mexico.

The Environmental Education Teacher will also work to facilitate collaboration between the SMNHC, Los Padillas, and NMMNH&S to better serve the youth of New Mexico.

Position may also include some light trail maintenance and building as well as helping with various science and data collection projects at the SMNHC.

The Environmental Education Teacher will work 3 days a week, one day with each location. Mondays will be spent at the SMNHC, Fridays will be at Los Padillas and the third day will vary depending on the NMMNH&S needs.  The schedule may vary depending on the needs of the three locations.

This position will require 675 total hours between mid October and mid July 2025.

Qualifications Required:

Bachelors Degree or working towards degree in Education, Environmental Studies, Biology, Ecology or other applicable area.

Conditions of Employment:

Desire to work with youth in the outdoors, ability to do physical labor and hikes at elevations of 7,000+ feet, working knowledge of Spanish desirable, occasional weekend work, authorization of a criminal background check and satisfactory result. APS Background check
