SMNHC Kit
Our Pre-Program kit activities will help you prepare your students for their Ecology Field Program at the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center. It includes specimens, lessons, books, and worksheets for classroom use.
Pre-Program Kit Contents
Our Pre-Program kit activities will help you prepare your students for their Ecology Field Program at the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center. These activities preview the content area vocabulary and basic concepts taught during our program.
The kit includes:
- Specimens including replica skulls, scat, and fur; a tree cookie (slice of tree trunk), and more
- Vocabulary cards (two sets), with images & terms
- Secret Message Lesson (PDF)
- Eco Crossword Lesson (PDF)
- Crossword Puzzle (PDF)
- The Tree in the Ancient Forest Lesson (PDF) and book
- Thinking Like a Mountain Lesson (PDF)

How to Request a Kit
APS teachers, request our Sandia Ecology Field Program Pre-Trip kit by contacting the APS Unified ARTS Resource Library in one of the following ways:

Library Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
Provide your APS ID number and let them know you want to request the SMNHC Pre-Trip Kit (Call number KIT 577.7 ECO).
Be sure to request your kit 2-3 weeks prior to your scheduled Ecology Field Program. The kit will be delivered to you by APS inter-office mail.
