Outdoor Learning
The Outdoor Learning Team, a group of dedicated teachers, empowering students and teachers to take the learning outside.
Who we are and what we do:
The Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) Outdoor Learning Team (OLT) was established in 2020 to enhance outdoor and place-based learning across the district. Our team includes dedicated educators and resource teachers from various APS departments, including Teaching & Learning, School Gardens, Sandia Mountain Natural History Center, Indian Education, and Health & Wellness.
Together, we work to connect students with nature, their local environment, and community by supporting outdoor learning experiences across APS schools.
Vision
APS is a place in which school campuses extend beyond the four walls of the building, where the outdoors is valued and utilized as an educational resource, and where the community and the natural environment are integral components of children’s education
Mission
The Outdoor Learning Team’s mission is to enhance and transform learning by integrating outdoor and place-based education into APS schools. We strive to connect students with nature, their local environment, and community through hands-on, experiential learning. By fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and a deeper understanding of the natural world, we aim to inspire responsibility, belonging, and a lifelong connection to the world around them.
