A great resource to use with your 5th grade students prior to their visit to the Sandia Mountain Natural History Center.
Introduction
This collection of 5 lessons will give your students a head start to help them get more out of their Ecology Field Program. They don't take up a large amount of class time.
Each lesson is aligned to New Mexico State Standards for different subjects. The files are downloadable, accessible, and printable for educational use.
Mini-Curriculum Lessons
- Ecosystem Scramble (PDF): Read a story while learning ecosystem vocabulary.
- ECOnnections (PDF): A fill-in-the-blank activity exploring ecosystem connections.
- Eco Word Puzzle (PDF): A crossword puzzle of ecosystem terms.
- Take Out the Trash (PDF): Learn about reducing, reusing, recycling, and composting.
- Fire On Trial (PDF): Act out a mock trial about forest fire and the different non-human and human characters affected by and making decisions about fire management.
