Newcomer Summer Program

The mission of the Newcomer Summer Program is to accelerate the academic and personal growth of refugee and immigrant students by providing a comprehensive summer program that focuses on English Language Development, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and the Arts.

When is the Newcomer Program?

No Program June 19th (Juneteenth) & No Program week of June 29 - July 3rd Program will resume on Monday July 6th.

Student Eligibility:

Students must meet the following criteria in order to qualify for the Newcomer Summer Program

  1. Enrolled in APS grades 5th -12th in School Year 25/26
  2. English learner
  3. In U.S. schools for less than 4 full academic school years

  4. ACCESS/WIDA scores at 3.0 or below

Interested in working with us?

Each year we hire a team of passionate educators including teachers (ELD, Math, Science, Social Studies), family liaisons and coordinators. We are hiring teachers for the 5th Annual Newcomer Summer Program. We are looking for teachers who are passionate about working with multilingual learners. The program is fun and engaging for students and staff! All staff receive ample PD and work with a supportive team of interdisciplinary, multilingual professionals and community partners. 

Teacher Requirements:

  1. All applicants must be current APS employees

  2. Teachers must be secondary endorsed in one or more of the following fields (ELD/ELA, Art, Math, Science, Social Studies)

  3. Experience working with English Learners

Preferred Skills:

  1. Speaking more than one language is a plus! Multilingual and or TESOL endorsement

  2. Experience with experiential learning

  3. Demonstrated commitment to CLR and equity
