K-8 NMPED Summer Reading Program

APS has partnered with the NM State Public Education Department for the 2026 NM Summer Reading Program. This will provide free structured literacy instruction to all APS, Charter, Private, and Home School incoming Kindergarten through 8th grade students.

What is the Summer Reading Program?

New Mexico's Summer Reading Program is an innovative free program set to empower students from incoming kindergartners to outgoing eighth graders with focused reading instruction in small groups with trained literacy instructors. This program is being offered free to New Mexico families because reading interventions work. Students who receive focused instruction can get caught up in important reading skills and gain the confidence they need to be successful in all school subjects. Our goals are simple: enhance literacy, track reading progress and boost confidence and skills in literacy.

When is the Summer Reading Program?

June 8, 2026 - July 17, 2026 | Monday - Friday | 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

APS will not be offering enrichment this summer. Instead, we will have an after-school provider at each site from 12 noon - 6 p.m. Please see provider information below for each school. You will need to contact them directly to sign up for the summer.

Registration

Registration for the summer of 2026 is now open! Please click here to register your student and follow below instructions. All APS, Charter, Private, and Home School incoming Kindergarten through current 8th grade students are eligible to register at any of the sites according with grade.

• You will need to create an account if you do not already have one.
• Create and add a student profile for each student you are enrolling.
• Choose Summer Reading Program site (All sites are on a first come first serve basis.  You will be notified when you student is accepted by the Extended Learning Department.)
• School Site is based on grade. All elementary students can attend an elementary school ONLY and all middle school students can attend a middle school ONLY.
