J.05 Student Attendance, Absences and Excuses - April 2001 Revision

Albuquerque Public Schools shall follow and implement New Mexico state law which requires that all children age five (5), prior to 12:01 a.m. on September 1 of the year the student enrolls in school and students under the age of eighteen (18) years who have not yet graduated from high school attend scheduled classes unless officially excused.
If a student must be absent, the parent/legal guardian shall follow the school’s notification process for absences. Albuquerque Public Schools shall consider a student in need of intervention at five (5) unexcused absences and a habitual truant at ten (10) unexcused absences in one school year.
The Board’s policy on attendance shall be further outlined in the Attendance Procedural Directive. All Albuquerque Public Schools shall follow this directive when establishing an attendance process at individual schools.
