J.05 Student Attendance, Absences and Excuses - April 2001 Revision

This policy was reviewed, revised, and split into two separate policies in November 2010. We provide this revision for historic purposes only.

In accordance with state law, all children over the age of five (5) and students under the age of eighteen (18) years and who have not yet graduated from high school are required to attend scheduled classes unless officially excused. Compliance is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

Daily school attendance is necessary for students to benefit fully from the instructional program. The district does recognize that there are situations that dictate a student's absence. Students and their families, however, must assume responsibility for the student's absences and recognize that excessive absenteeism, regardless of the reason, will negatively affect the student's achievement in class.

Making-Up Missing Assignments

In general, for authorized or excused absences the student will be afforded the opportunity to make up all work without penalty within a reasonable length of time. In case of unauthorized or unexcused absences, the principal and teacher will judge the merit of providing makeup work and will judge each case on its own merit.
