APS Provides Technology to All Students

The COVID guidelines below were for the 2020-2021 school year.

We have committed to providing one technology device to each student for remote learning during the pandemic.

Laptops

Summer student device hot swap locations

Many schools are locked during the summer with limited staff on site. To service the student devices during this time, the Technology Device Service Center at M Building in the Lincoln Complex area will be open for the summer, starting May 26. Hours are 8:30am to 5pm, M-F. Technology is happy to offer continued support for student and staff devices throughout the break. Please call the service desk at 830-8080 beforehand to arrange the device swap.

Reminder to students about device chargers

When turning in your APS device, please include the charger with the device. Only about 1 in 10 of the devices collected included the charger.

Internet Access

APS is using operational funds to cover internet costs for families in need. Schools will be reaching out to families that have indicated they need assistance. Families also may contact their child’s school if they need help accessing the internet. The deadline to sign up for Comcast sponsored by APS has been extended to December 31, 2020. Please contact your school for a code.

With APS’ partnerships with the City of Albuquerque, Comcast, and T-Mobile, all APS families should be able to get internet access to continue their learning.

Comcast Provides Free Internet for Low-Income Families

APS is helping get the word out about Comcast’s Internet Essentials program, which provides inexpensive internet for low-income families who do not have internet access. New customers get the first two months free. For complete details sign up online or call 1-855-846-8376. Spanish-only speakers can call 1-855-765-6995.

For families that can’t afford Internet Essentials at their home, APS will sponsor the cost of six months of Comcast Internet Essentials service. For families in remote areas that don’t have access to Comcast services, APS will work with them on getting hot spots powered by T-Mobile, again at no cost to the families.

Xfinity Wifi Hotspots

Comcast has also made all Xfinity WiFi hotspots at businesses available for free; the public can visit a map to find their closest Comcast-sponsored hotspot.

CABQ Wifi on Wheels

APS also is working with the City of Albuquerque to provide drive-up mobile WiFi units at a number of APS schools and other public locations. Users can drive up to within 100 feet of the mobile units and stay in their cars to promote social distancing while accessing a free WiFi connection. The City of Albuquerque has posted a map of the free public WiFi access points.
