APS Office of Equity and Engagement encourages Elementary, Middle, and High School Students to reflect on My Heritage/Mi Herencia for the 2024 Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month Essay Contest.

My Heritage/Mi Herencia

Purpose

In Spanish, mi herencia translates to “my heritage”. Mi herencia is very important
in understanding who we are as people and where we came from. It can refer to
your family, your friends, your community, and those who support and make up
your identity. Your heritage can be how you gained your courage, resilience,
passion, strength, empathy, and pride.

Please reflect on your heritage/herencia and how it has made you be who you are. What makes up “your heritage”? How does it help you in being more courageous, resilient, passionate, strong, and empathetic? How does your herencia teach you about love and acceptance? In addition, how do you acknowledge your herencia in your daily life? What else have you learned from your herencia or how else has it helped you?
