Hundreds Take Advantage of Early Transfer Window at APS
Families encouraged to submit their transfer requests as soon as possible.
Hundreds of Albuquerque Public Schools families have already applied to transfer their child to their desired school for the upcoming school year, and they will learn within the next week or so whether their request has been granted.
For those who haven’t yet taken advantage of the district’s decision to open the transfer window early, there’s still time.
Attendance at most APS schools is based on geographic boundaries; however, students are able to transfer to schools outside their neighborhoods if there’s room available at the desired school. In past years, the window for transfer requests would open in January, but this year, families were able to begin the process on Oct. 14–two-and-a-half months early.
The change is intended to give students and their families better predictability when planning for the upcoming school year.
Families who requested a transfer for their students by Nov. 30 will be notified via email by Dec. 8 whether the request has been granted. If the request was approved, they will have until Dec. 19 to accept or decline the transfer in ParentVUE.
Families who have yet to request a transfer still have an opportunity to do so. Families who get their requests in by Jan. 4 will be notified via email by Jan. 13 whether the transfer has been approved or if their student is on a waiting list. Those who have their transfer request granted will have until Jan. 23 to accept or decline the transfer in ParentVUE.
