The New Mexico Auto Theft Prevention Authority, in partnership with Albuquerque Public Schools, will be offering Free Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Etching.

The New Mexico Auto Theft Prevention Authority, in partnership with Albuquerque Public Schools, will be offering Free Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Etching at the Albuquerque Public Schools Administrative Offices located at 6400 Uptown Blvd. NE on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

With the National Insurance Crime Bureau ranking the Albuquerque Metro Area as its number one “hot spot” for auto theft for the third consecutive year in 2018, and automobile theft being the most expensive property crime suffered by our community, every preventative measure taken can help decrease your chances of falling victim to an auto thief or burglar. VIN etching is a process in which the vehicle’s identification number is permanently etched into the glass of the vehicle. This makes the vehicle less valuable to a thief, as it will become more difficult for a thief to sell the parts and helps assist law enforcement in the recovery of stolen vehicles and the identification of “chop shops.” You may also be eligible for up to a 10 percent insurance discount on your vehicle’s theft coverage. This is an estimated $100-$300 value. VIN etching is offered free of charge by the New Mexico Auto Theft Prevention Authority. The vehicle owner must provide proof of vehicle ownership.
