APS "Welcome Back" Listening Session

Albuquerque Public Schools is rolling out the red carpet — and the electric school buses — for its second community listening session of the year on July 27. The "Welcome Back to School" event promises an engaging evening for families to connect directly with district leadership while getting a firsthand look at the future of student services.

Stay until the end of the listening session for a chance to win giveaways.

The session is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Alice and Bruce King Educational Complex, 6400 Uptown Blvd. NE. It's designed as a collaborative forum focused on two pillars of the student experience: Food and Nutrition Services and Transportation.

While the survey for the event has now closed, district officials emphasize that the feedback gathered from students and families will serve as the roadmap for the evening’s facilitated discussions.

The event aims to be more than just a meeting; it’s a showcase of district innovation.

Before the meeting starts, attendees can enjoy a "Menu Sneak Peek" featuring appetizers of new cafeteria items slated for the upcoming school year. These new offerings are a direct result of student feedback collected last semester by the Food and Nutrition Services department, led by Marie Johnson.

Outside in the parking lot the district’s commitment to sustainability will be on full display. Families are invited to tour the new electric school buses and experience the cleaner, quieter transportation technology being integrated into the APS fleet.

Both the Menu Sneak Peek and the electric bus showcase will take place from 5 to 6 p.m.

For those unable to attend in person, the Listening Session will be live-streamed on the Board of Education YouTube channelExternal link , with the recording available for later viewing.

Whether joining in the boardroom or from home, APS encourages all community members to participate in this dialogue as the district prepares to welcome students back for another year of learning.
