Any Albuquerque Public Schools student identified to the district as having been charged with committing a crime, including, but not limited to, a violent act or having illegally possessed a firearm, while on- and off-campus, may be assessed, as per the direction of the Albuquerque Public Schools Police Department and in consultation with district personnel as to whether the student:

  • may reasonably present a danger to himself/herself or others
  • needs additional support from the Albuquerque Public Schools
  • would likely significantly disrupt the school environment by returning to the school campus

As a result of such an assessment process, the district may require the student be placed in an alternative program for the wellbeing of the student and others. The district also may require that the student be placed in an alternative program during the assessment process.
