JI3 Student Possession of a Firearm November 2010 Revision

This policy was updated in July 2022
Students found to be in possession of a firearm, unless that possession has been sanctioned by the superintendent, while at school, at any school-related event, or at any time they are participating in an activity associated with the district, shall be expelled from the Albuquerque Public Schools for a minimum of one calendar year and the offender(s) shall be referred to the Albuquerque Public Schools Police Department for appropriate action.
The superintendent, or appropriate associate superintendent, may modify the disciplinary action on a case-by-case basis through an appeal process.
The definition of "firearm" from 18 U. S. C. 92 is summarized as, ". . . any weapon which will propel a projectile by the action of an explosive."
