Bilingual Seal

Choice Check: Bilingual Seal

Albuquerque Public Schools students can earn a bilingual seal on their high school diploma by completing a dual-language program. APS has several dual-language schools where students speak and learn in both English and Spanish.

Dual Language Programs

In recognition of the importance of bilingualism and biliteracy, the bilingual seal pathway provides students with an opportunity to acquire a district seal and a State of New Mexico Bilingualism and Biliteracy Seal in Spanish, Native American languages (Navajo and Zuni), and other foreign languages (French, German and Chinese). High school students must take at least 8 core credits in another language and complete a portfolio.

The Bilingual seal, which is also affixed to the student's transcript, signifies proficiency and skills in two languages. The achievement is sure to benefit students in college, career, and life.

Elementary and middle school students also can earn a bilingual seal by taking half of their academic content in English, the other half in Spanish, and completing a portfolio. The student-driven program recognizes bilingualism, exemplary work, and collaboration.
