Student of the Week Quil Del Villar Seguin
Junior at College and Career High School
Nusenda Credit Union, in partnership with the APS Education Foundation, highlights an APS student each week.
What Quil likes about school: I’ve found the flexibility of schedules offered by my school to be of the greatest benefit to my learning. The ability to choose what CNM classes I take and when alongside my high school classes helps me work at my own pace and learn about topics that interest me, which increases my motivation to complete my work.
Favorite subject: Given the different natures of each class I take, it’s nearly inconceivable to pick a favorite. I enjoy my class on Contemporary Social Problems for the analysis we are encouraged to take part in and the varying--yet respectful perspectives each student presents. Then again, my ASL 3 (American Sign Language) class enables me to explore language and communication in a way none of my other foreign language classes have covered. I don’t think I can choose between them.
Hobbies and activities: My main personal interest is writing, ranging from analyzing the plots of books and movies to breaking down characters to writing my own stories. I recently surpassed 150k words in a personal story of mine, so writing is where the majority of my free time is spent. Literature as a whole contains multitudes of divisions to explore.
Plans for the future: Ideally, I’ll go into a creative field, as I do enjoy writing, but I don’t plan ahead for the future; I plan for things as they come. I don’t want to decide what my life will be right now when there are several things I’ve yet to discover. I’ll find out what happens when I get there!
