Public Invited to Review Math Textbooks

Posted August 24, 2026, 1:50 PM. Updated August 24, 2026, 1:50 PM.

Teachers and members of the school community are invited to review and give input on proposed high-quality instructional materials.

Albuquerque Public Schools is reviewing math textbooks for students in grades K-12 and wants your feedback.

The district plans to purchase textbooks that are culturally and linguistically relevant and that provide rich, diverse and engaging content. APS is seeking materials that will work well for teachers as they provide appropriate scaffolds to help all students achieve grade-level mastery of rigorous standards.

Parents, guardians, family members, employees, teachers, students and community members are invited to review the textbooks being considered.

Providing feedback

To give your input on specific textbooks, please email Rachel Altobelli (rachel.altobelli@aps.edu) and she will send you the information online and/or schedule a time for you to review textbooks in person.

To give your input on textbooks in general, please use the HQIM 2026-2027 Community Input Form.

Dates: The comment period is open until Oct. 30. Because the space being used for the public to review materials is an active training and meeting space, please contact Rachel Altobelli (rachel.altobelli@aps.edu) to set up a time to view materials.

Location: They are available at the LSIM Training Library, Building O, 930 Oak St SE.

Multiple APS departments are working on this review, and along with the Albuquerque Teachers Federation and APS teachers, are using tools such as the reviews done by the New Mexico Public Education Department and EdReports, and are also considering factors such as:

  • Organization
  • The role of student choice
  • How standards are supported
  • Availability of digital accessibility tools
  • Support for culturally and linguistically responsive teaching and learning
  • Affirmation for all students
  • Embedded support for students in Special Education
  • Embedded support for students who are English Learners.

We are aligning this process with the APS Board of Education Goals and Guardrails.
