Husky Expo Showcases Immersive Learning
Elementary students display their research projects while exploring professional pathways.
The Husky Expo at Marie Hughes Elementary School brought classroom learning to life as students proudly showcased their research projects from the past six weeks of the Savvas reading curriculum. The exhibition featured student-built models ranging from miniature airport baggage claims to neighborhood fire stations. These hands-on projects allowed students to demonstrate their academic growth while practicing their leadership skills.
Beyond displaying their academic work, the expo served as a bridge between the classroom and the broader neighborhood by welcoming local community partners. This integration is a key part of Albuquerque Public Schools’ early career and college readiness initiatives, which aim to expose students to professional pathways from pre-K through high school. Students interacted directly with working professionals, learning about different industries and observing how community members spend their workdays.
The Husky Expo challenged young learners to build meaningful connections and explore their own futures.
