'Year of Arts in Education'
APS programs, students will be featured in September and throughout the year
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has proclaimed the 2025-26 school year the “Year of Arts in Education” and Albuquerque Public Schools’ top-notch programs and talented students will be front and center throughout.
The kickoff celebration for the Year of the Arts will take place Sept. 3 at the State Fair, during the School Arts Exhibition Preview Night and Awards Ceremony. The free public event, scheduled from 6-8 p.m., will feature artwork, presentations and dance performances from schools throughout New Mexico, including APS, where the arts have long been a passion.
The event will celebrate art education’s key role in education, including expression, artistic and performance skills, cultural understanding, engagement and well-being, among other things.
The APS Fine Arts department has assigned a month to each grouping of schools based on feeder patterns for sharing photos or videos of students engaging in the arts. APS Fine Arts is encouraging teachers and administrators to submit documentation of students’ work in fine arts classrooms and on campus.
