What to Expect on Snow Days
APS is once again using asynchronous learning on days schools are closed due to inclement weather. Delayed starts will remain in play.
For the third consecutive year, Albuquerque Public Schools will replace snow days with asynchronous learning days.
What that means is that instead of a full day off when school buildings close for weather, students will learn from home. Their teachers may:
- Create and post assignments for students to complete on their own via Google Classroom or another platform
- Maintain office hours online to support students with assignments or offer tutoring
- Use other instructional practices to ensure that students are learning
Students who don’t have access to a digital device or the internet will be given additional time to complete assignments in class when they return.
APS employees, except for teachers and educational assistants , will be expected to report to work as soon as safely possible. Teachers and EAs may work from home or at their school on those days.
So what happens to the two-hour weather delays under this approach?
Delayed starts are still a possibility. When weather conditions require a two-hour delay to give roads and weather time to clear, students aren’t expected to learn from home and teachers aren’t expected to teach. Everyone simply begins the school day when they arrive and picks up learning once class starts.
The best resource for information on school delays and closings is APS.edu. Information will also be available through school websites, the district’s Facebook page, local media, and through SchoolMessenger.
