VAPA to Host End of the Year of the Arts in Education Celebration
The event will take place on April 21 at the APS Berna Facio Professional Development Complex.
In the spring of 2025, the New Mexico Advisory Council for Arts Education wrote and presented a proclamation to our state’s governor and they were thrilled to announce that Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham officially proclaimed the 2025–2026 school year as the New Mexico Year of the Arts in Education!
Arts education encompasses a wide spectrum of disciplines, traditional and contemporary, within fields such as visual arts and design, media arts, music, theatre, dance, literary arts, and culinary arts, among others. These fields offer rich opportunities for cross-curricular integration and interdisciplinary learning.
This historic proclamation celebrates arts education's essential role in nurturing student learning, expression, artistic skills, performance skills, cultural understanding, career opportunities, engagement, identity, creativity, and well-being.
The APS Visual and Performing Arts answered this call to action by celebrating and highlighting the impact of the arts in the lives of our students and communities. We asked that the teachers share photos or short videos of student performances, projects, and exhibitions as well as behind-the-scenes moments of arts instruction, rehearsals or creations. Our K-12 visual and performing arts programs did not disappoint. We invite you to celebrate the end of the Year of the Arts in Education with an evening of performances, elementary, middle and high school visual art as well as the opportunity to participate in a community art project.
The event will take place on Tuesday, April 21, from 4:30-6:30 p.m., at the APS Berna Facio Professional Development Complex, 3115 Louisiana Blvd. NE.
