Taking Center Stage
More than 160 APS students receive diplomas following summer school.
The timing is different, but the accomplishment is just as genuine – and important.
One hundred seventy three Albuquerque Public Schools students received their high school diplomas Tuesday after completing summer school requirements. The graduation ceremony, held at Berna Facio Professional Development Center, drew a packed house of proud family members and friends who understand the hard work that goes into the feat.
Summer school in APS is held every year. Often, it helps students gain credits they may not have received during the regular school year, though four students in Tuesday’s events were early graduates. All count toward the district’s graduation rate, which improved significantly in the Class of 2024.
Like other members of the Class of 2025, many of Tuesday’s graduates are now headed toward college and career.
“We’re proud of every graduate, regardless of when they walk across the stage,” said APS Superintendent Gabriella Blakey. “Those who graduate in the summer have exhibited perseverance, which is a critical component of one of our goals as a district.”
