Skills, Habits and Mindsets Student Survey Opens Sept. 29
Twice-yearly survey measures how students feel at school and how they deal with challenges; families wanting to opt out have until Sept. 19.
The community has expressed a clear desire for Albuquerque Public Schools students to not only master reading, writing and math, but also to build the crucial soft skills necessary for success in their lives and future careers.
The APS Board of Education took that feedback to heart when creating five-year goals for the district and established a Skills, Habits & Mindsets for Life Success goal focused on perseverance, self-regulation, self-efficacy and social awareness.
Progress on this goal is tracked through a twice-yearly survey. The survey measures how students feel at school and how they deal with challenges.
Schools will administer that survey to third- through 12th-grade students between Sept. 29 and Oct. 17. Parents or guardians who want to opt their child out of the survey are asked to complete the opt-out form by Sept. 19.
"These surveys offer an important look into our school environments and how students navigate challenges," said Kenneth Salazar, Associate Superintendent for School Climate and Supports. "The insights are invaluable for refining our efforts and pinpointing exact areas for improvement."
Student responses will be accessible to school staff, but there will be no public disclosure that identifies any students.
