APS Board Member to Take Leave of Absence

Astorga assures constituents Board Services will handle inquiries.

APS Board of Education Secretary Janelle Astorga will be taking a brief leave of absence from her board duties beginning in March to attend to a personal matter.

Astorga announced her plans during Wednesday night’s board meeting. She urged constituents who have questions to contact the Board Services Office for assistance while she is out.

“They are happy to be of service to you all, and I know that they will answer the way I would answer," she said. "I feel good about how I'm leaving things in these couple of months.”

Astorga said she would be out from March through May. In June and July, she plans to attend board meetings virtually and will be fully back in person in August.

Astorga is hosting a town hall for constituents on Saturday, Feb. 22, and will also be at the board’s Student Outcomes Focused Governance training session on Feb. 28. She also plans to be at Rio Grande High School on March 14 for a trades event with the Plumbers Union Local 412.

Astorga has been on the APS Board since January 2024. She’s served as the board’s secretary since joining the governing body.
