APS Hosts Summer Graduation on July 27

More than 200 students are expected to get their diplomas during the ceremony.

Albuquerque Public Schools will host a summer graduation ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 27, at the Kiva Auditorium in the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Over 225 students who took summer classes and garnered the credits they need to earn a high school diploma are expected to participate in Tuesday's ceremony. Two of the students are graduating early from high school.

Summer graduation is a colorful event, with students from all APS comprehensive high schools and magnet schools wearing caps and gowns in their school colors.

"This group of students has a lot to celebrate," said APS Superintendent Scott Elder. "They put in a lot of time and effort over the past couple of months to earn the final credits they need for a high school diploma. I know it hasn't been easy, but they made it to the finish line, and now they are prepared for the next leg of life's journey. Congratulations to them, and also to all who supported them along the way."

Each summer graduate is allowed to invite up to 6 family members and friends to attend the graduation ceremony. Guest and graduates need wristbands to enter the auditorium. They can be picked up by the graduate at the APS administration building,  6400 Uptown Blvd. NE, in the Rio Bonito Room. Pick up times are:

  • Thursday, July 22, from 1-3:30 p.m.
  • Friday, July 23, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Monday, July 26, from 1-3 p.m.

Wristbands won't be available on graduation day. They must be picked up in advance of the ceremony. Graduates and guests will need them to enter the Kiva Auditorium.

Parking is $10 per car in the Convention Center parking lot.

Students and guests who aren't vaccinated against COVID-19 are asked to wear masks during both the indoor and outdoor graduation events.
