Voters Approve APS Bond/Mil Levy

Posted February 3, 2016, 10:45 AM. Updated February 8, 2016, 3:20 PM.

Almost 70 percent say 'yes' to bond issue

According to the Bernalillo County Clerk’s Office, Albuquerque voters on Feb. 2 approved $200 million in general obligation bonds and a mil levy that will generate about $375 million over six years to build and remodel Albuquerque Public Schools facilities.

“We are pleased and grateful that voters came out to support their schools,” said APS Superintendent Raquel Reedy.

The bond question passed with 69.7 percent voting for the measure, while the mil levy passed with 65.4 percent of voters approving the measure. Some 29,055 voters cast ballots in the election.

“Passage of the mil levy means that students will continue to be able to take advantage of the latest technology as they learn for the jobs and careers of the 21st century,” Reedy added.

APS Board of Education President Dr. Don Duran also thanked everyone who took part in the election. “The students, teachers, community and business leaders who worked to pass the bond/mil levy, and every voter who filled in the ‘yes’ bubbles on their ballot, all deserve our thanks,” Duran said.

The results became official when Bernalillo County Clerk Maggie Toulouse Oliver completed a canvass and certified the election on Friday, Feb. 5.
