Welcoming Our Newest Group of Special Education Teacher Residents

Posted August 12, 2025, 3:17 PM. Updated August 12, 2025, 3:17 PM.

APS, ATF and CNM partnership grows the next generation of special education teachers.

Just as our students returned to school last week, so did our newest group of Teacher Residents from SETT CNM Cohort 8.

SETT, which stands for Special Education Teacher Training, is a partnership between Albuquerque Public Schools, the Albuquerque Teachers Federation, and Central New Mexico Community College. Established in 2018, the program’s goal is to provide a comprehensive, well-supported alternative licensure pathway to attract and retain high-quality special education teachers in APS.

APS is investing in both our students and our newest teachers through this unique program. Teacher Residents spend four days a week in the classroom with their Cooperating Teachers, engaging in hands-on, real-time learning with students. One day a week, they attend classes at CNM.

These dedicated residents are already hard at work, learning, teaching and making a difference for APS students.
