Valle Vista Student Featured by PBS
America's Awesome Kids recognizes young advocate Julie Faith Bolívar for her leadership, creativity and commitment.
A Valle Vista Elementary School student is receiving national recognition for using her voice to make a difference.
Julie Faith Bolívar was selected as New Mexico's representative in PBS’s America’s Awesome Kids series, which highlights young people across the country who are making a positive impact in their communities.
Faith earned the honor through her advocacy for healthier school food, including a memorable speech she delivered at the New Mexico Roundhouse in third grade. Her passion for helping others, along with her cultural and family connections, artistic talents and leadership, helped make her selection possible.
As part of the project, a PBS film crew visited Valle Vista Elementary and spent time with Faith, her family and classmates. Portions of the feature will air on PBS as short vignettes, sharing her story with audiences across the country.
Faith's recognition also spotlights Valle Vista's Dual Language program and the opportunities students have to explore their interests, including guitar instruction offered at the school.
Faith's story is an inspiring example of how students can use their voices to advocate for change and make a meaningful impact in their communities.
