Buddy Day service project brings kindergarteners through 7th graders together to spread kindness through creative holiday designs.

Students across multiple grade levels at Tres Volcanes Community Collaborative School recently came together for a heartfelt Buddy Day service project. Instead of their usual activities, classes from Mrs. Henderson’s 7th graders, Ms. Baca’s 7th graders, Ms. Buenviaje and Ms. Von Dasing’s kindergarteners, Ms. Marrujo’s 6th graders, and Mrs. Santillanes’ 3rd graders teamed up to decorate the lids of Holiday Gift Boxes for the Cancer Foundation of New Mexico.

The project was inspired by Vince Baca, executive director of the foundation, who hoped students’ artwork would add an extra touch of warmth and care to the baskets delivered to individuals and families facing cancer during the holiday season. Students embraced cheerful winter themes, creating bright, uplifting designs meant to spread kindness and joy.

Through this service activity, Tres Volcanes students demonstrated the power of creativity and compassion. Their thoughtful contributions will help bring comfort and encouragement to community members bravely navigating cancer, a meaningful reminder that even small acts can make a big difference.
