The Power of Partnership: Family and Community Engagement in Our Schools
A look at fall offerings from our Family Engagement Unit.
The start of a new school year is a time of excitement and renewed energy, and this September, our Family Engagement Unit has been hard at work strengthening the bonds between our schools, students and families.
We've been very busy attending a number of school open houses, and it's been wonderful to see so many excited families and students enjoying their school environments. These events are a fantastic reminder of how important it is to have families actively engaged in their child's education.
At APS, we believe that family engagement is critical to student success. It's not just about showing up to a meeting; it’s about a collaborative partnership between the district, schools, families and the wider community. When we work together, we create a strong support system that helps every student thrive.
To support this effort, the Family Engagement Unit is providing a number of important training opportunities this fall. We're offering sessions for both families and staff on topics like Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and STEP (School Training for Engagement Planning). Just recently, the unit hosted a training for our Family Liaisons. We were honored to have Associate Superintendent Kenneth Salazar join us as a special guest, where he shared a powerful message about the “Power of a Smile.”
By working together, we can ensure that every student has the support they need to succeed both in school and in life.
